For this weeks cooking, I decided to try to do something with the leftover taco shells I had from the tacos I made previously. My initial thought was a creation I had seen on one of my favourite tv shows from my childhood, ICarly. On this show, one of the characters created a dish called spaghetti tacos, which is basically just spaghetti in taco shells. Here is a photo from the show:
As a child I had always wanted to try one, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity! I gathered my roommates and we decided to have a spaghetti taco night. We didn’t have enough shells so we bought a cheap pack from Save On Foods. This dish was super easy to make because all we had to do was make regular spaghetti and then put it into taco shells. We boiled salted water, added our spaghetti noodles, and cooked until they were soft and ready. We drained the noodles and added tomato sauce as well as Italian seasoning. We put the taco shells on a baking pan and baked them at 350 for 5 minutes. It was then time to assemble our spaghetti tacos! I added parmesan cheese on top of mine, but my roommate decided to also add red chilli flakes and pepper.
Overall, the tacos were not as good as I was hoping they would be. We discussed that there are many factors that could have caused this. Firstly, the shells we bought were not very good quality and many of them were broken or could not hold very much spaghetti. We found that the taco shell cooled down the noodles, making it a cold dish, which was not expected. We also felt that there wasn’t much flavour to it, which we think could have been caused by the type of spaghetti sauce we used or the amount we used. I am happy that I got the experience of making and eating a spaghetti taco, but it isn’t something I would do nor recommend. I guess if you have extra taco shells it could be something different, but it was not as good as I was hoping. I would give it a 4/10.
