I think I have a very unique opportunity presented to me with this free inquiry project, as I am able to do something I’ve been interested in but haven’t had the motivation to complete. When I first heard about this project, my first instinct was something to do with cooking. Since moving away from home in September I have been trying to get used to all of the extra tasks I now have on my plate. Growing up I had always enjoyed cooking with others, however over the years I haven’t been able to find much time for it. Living on my own now I realize how beneficial cooking can be as having the same boring thing every day is not ideal. Eating meals out and ordering take-out is very expensive for a student, which is another reason why I really want to be able to cook different types of dishes. My goal with this project is to try to find a variety of easy recipes that could work for a college student.

I have already started to acquire some resources that I think will help me on my cooking journey. The website supercook.com allows you to enter what ingredients you already have and gives you a variety of recipes you can make. This is super helpful as it is always upsetting when you find a great recipe but realize you do not have all of the ingredients needed for it. I think this is going to be a great resource I will use a lot!

Another resource I am going to be using is the app Tik Tok. Tik Tok allows users from around the world to post minute-long videos of anything. Using hashtags such as #collegecooking I will be able to see quick videos from other college students. I also found the user @collegechefron who posts many videos for college cooking.

My goal is to try out a couple of recipes each week and write about how easy I thought it was to make, as well as how much I enjoyed the dish. I will be sharing the recipes in each post in hopes to inspire others to give them a try as well. Ideally I would like to eventually move to healthy recipes, but for now it is about having a variety of dishes I can make that won’t hurt my wallet. I am very excited to get started!
