As I reflect back on my progress throughout the term, I am very proud of myself. I really committed to the process and practiced almost every day. I have seen progress in my ukulele skills as well as in my confidence playing and singing. I never would have thought that I would be posting one of my original songs online, yet here I am! I hope all of my hard work is shown in the video.
I am very happy with how my song turned out. I think it is a very nice tribute to the people who make my life better, and I am definitely going to share the link with them. I was able to memorize it so in my video I was able to look up and perform it better. Here is the final song:
(Verse 1)
C G BM F
My home has been broken before, people come in and take then walk out the door
C G BM F
My heart can’t take this anymore, the walls are peeling there’s broken glass on the floor
(Bridge)
AM F C F
But you paint my walls then we paint the town, you close my blinds when you know he’s around
AM F C G
You fluff the pillows and vacuum my room, tell me to tidy up as you grab the broom
(Chorus)
F G C EM
This home has never really felt like mine, thought it would be easier to leave it behind
F G C EM
But you see the beauty within it’s bones, remind me I don’t have to fix it alone
F G C EM
And it might sound crazy but I know it’s true, I’m most at home whenever I’m with you
F G C
You, ooh, ooh, ooh, with you
(Verse 2)
C G BM F
The roof is leaking I’m afraid it will cave, but we’ll just listen and think of the waves
C G BM F
You tell me this house is not broken, it’s brave, then put up the memories of us you’ve saved
(Bridge)
AM F C F
Yeah we’ll paint the walls then we’ll paint the town, you close my blinds when you know he’s around
F G C EM
And it might sound crazy but I know it’s true, I’m most at home whenever I’m with you
F G C
You, ooh, ooh, ooh, with you
(Bridge)
AM F C F
Yeah this house may be a fixer-upper, but I couldn’t do it with no other
AM F C G
Knock down the walls, watching them fall, and I know you’ll be there through it all
(Chorus)
F G C EM
This home has never really felt like mine, thought it would be easier to leave it behind
F G C EM
But you see the beauty within it’s bones, remind me I don’t have to fix it alone
F G C EM
And it might sound crazy but I know it’s true, I’m most at home whenever I’m with you
F G C
You, ooh, ooh, ooh, with you
When performing this song I really focused on the critiques I was given, including using my ring finger when playing a C note and not having my thumb stick out as much. I can now successfully play a C chord, but the thumb is still a work in progress (however it has definitely gotten better). I used the strumming pattern and the chords BM and EM from the songs I learned for my music midterm. I am proud of the work I have put in and I am excited to learn and write more songs on the ukulele! My journey does not end here!
