Now that I have met my midterm goal, it is time to start focusing on my final project. My final project is to write my own song, including at least one of the new notes I have learned. I am very excited to do this as I really enjoy expressing myself through music. I do think this will challenge me as I would like to write a song that is not too personal, but still shows raw emotion. I have written songs before, but I rarely share them, so this is definitely out of my comfort zone. This is why I want the song to still be personal, but not to a point where I feel extremely anxious to put it onto the internet.
This morning I woke up with a great idea for what I wanted to write about. I jumped out of bed and quickly scribbled down the lyrics I had come up with. I recently heard a song a girl posted on the app Tik Tok comparing her friends to the light in her life. Moving away from my hometown and my close friends, I really took to this song she wrote. I have recently wondered where my home is, whether it is here in Victoria where I moved, or in Richmond where I have lived most of my life. In October, I went home to visit and hung out with my best friends, which made me feel more like myself than I had in a while. This made me think that maybe a home isn’t a place, but the people who make you the most comfortable. This is what I want the theme of my song to be. I am hoping that I can stick with this theme and write a beautiful tribute to all of the people who make me feel the most myself.
As for the chords of the song, I have begun brainstorming combinations of chords I have liked in the past. To incorporate a new chord I think I am going to try working with the Bm chord I learned in the last song I learned, Quite Miss Home. I liked the sound of the Bm going to an F, so I think I may try to use this. I definitely want the chords to change throughout the song, so I am thinking about having verses, a bridge, and a chorus. I still have time so I am not setting anything in stone, but so far I like the ideas I have come up with. I am hoping I can stick to this plan, but I am prepared to adapt as needed.
