This week, my roommates and I decided we wanted to have a taco night! Originally we were going to go to a Mexican restaurant, but we decided cooking tacos would be cheaper and more of an experience. We took a quick trip to the grocery store (Save On Foods) to buy meat, cheese, and the taco kits, and then began the process.

The three of us each took on a role in order to cook the tacos as efficiently as possible. I decided to be in charge of cooking the meat. I followed the directions on the taco kit, so begun by putting a bit of oil in a hot pan and then adding the ground beef. I cooked the beef, stirring constantly, until I knew all of the beef was brown. I then drained the beef, and added water as the box instructed. I added the taco seasoning and allowed that to all simmer together. While I was doing this, my roommates were preparing the toppings we used, which included lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and salsa. We also decided to make tater tots on the side. Once all of that was prepared, we heated up the tortilla shells and wraps in the oven. We then began the assembly of our individual tacos.

Overall I really enjoyed the experience of making the tacos and they ended up tasting really good. They were definitely much cheaper than if we had decided to go out and get them, plus we had lots of leftovers. I also really liked that each of us were able to assemble a taco to our preference. For example, I personally did not put tomatoes on mine but one of my roommates added lots to hers. It was definitely a bit of a process, as there was a lot to do to prepare as well as clean, but if you enjoy cooking or have people to help you I think it is a great meal to make. I would rate this recipe a 9/10 because it was affordable and tasty. I also really like the individuality you can put into your taco. I wouldn’t give it a 10 because of the preparation time/clean up time but otherwise I think this is an ideal meal that my roommates and I will definitely make again!
