This week I had my first EDCI 336 class, which covers technology and innovation in education. This was the course I was most nervous for, as I wasn’t too sure what would be covered and I am not very confident in my technological abilities. However, after attending the first lecture, I am feeling more confident and excited to learn more.
This week we talked a bit about privacy which I found very fascinating. I find that it is so normal now-a-days to just agree to the terms and conditions and give up your private information without a second thought. It was interesting to think about how teachers have the ability to use resources that force students to sign up for something where they have to give up private information. This is something I would not have really thought about, but now understand that I will need to ensure I use safe platforms and receive consent from every student.
The first task I completed for this course was building this website. If you had told me a month ago I would be building and running a website, I would not have believed you. When I first heard about this task, I was extremely nervous and immediately had a negative mindset towards it, believing there was no way I would be able to do it on my own. This was a great learning opportunity for me, as I learned that I am capable of more than I thought. Following the step-by-step instructions, I was able to smoothly set up the website. I began to play around with customization until I found something I felt confident in. Even though I was mainly just following instructions, I was extremely proud of myself for completing the task and figuring out the website myself. I am looking forward to learning more about the different ways I can make my website better, as well as learn how to be more confident with technology!
